The teacher in a Montessori classroom is more often called a guide or a directress. She does not stand at the front and speak, she observes what the children are interested in, what they need, then creates the environment and presents the materials to facilitate learning. Students receive individual lesson plans, individual lessons and small group lessons based on the teacher's observations of their abilities and interests.
